Thank you for contacting the Blissfield Chamber of Commerce. I invite You to visit and experience the friendly village of Blissfield. This tranquil town is just minutes from busy metropolitan areas and major Thoroughfares, yet a world apart from the hustle and bustle. While you enjoy our quiet parks and great history, you’ll be amazed at the wonderful variety of restaurants and shops we have to offer.
Founded by Harvey Bliss in 1824, 13 years before Michigan became a State, Blissfield is full of great Victorian homes and buildings. Much of our downtown consists of century old buildings. In 1829, the First Presbyterian Church on Franklin Street was holding services in the log cabin of Hervey and Nancy Bliss. The beautiful sanctuary was built in 1849, while Reverend John Monteith, co-founder and first president of the University of Michigan, was pastor. The church was the site of the founding of one the first anti-slavery organizations in Michigan. Blissfield has two bed and breakfast lodging establishments, the H.D. Ellis Inn and Blissfield Bed & Breakfast, both in historic homes on Adrian Street. Another great place to stay while in Blissfield is the nearby Island Resort at the renowned golf course, The Legacy by Arthur Hills.
Our village has many great restaurants. The Hathaway House and Main Street Stables, dining establishments known throughout Michigan, reside in the 1851 Greek revival home, also on Adrian Street, our main street. On this same street you’ll find Lena’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria (Lena is from Sicily,) Beckey’s Kountry Kitchen, McDonalds, Subway, Blissfield Market and Homerun Pizza with the Frosty Boy. Downtown Blissfield is home to four eating establishments, including our newest bakery and soda shop, Cakes and Shakes, Emilio’s Tex Mex, Stop ‘n Rock Cafe and Blissfield Coney Island. Just east of the village is the restaurant, The Legacy Restaurant at the aforementioned golf course. Looking for a snack or a fill-up? Try Clark, Blissfield BP, Blissfield Market, or Borchardt Brothers market. Need some cash? ATM’s are available at our fine banking institutions, Blissfield State Bank, United Bank and Trust, Bank of America and Key Bank.
Throughout Blissfield you’ll find great shopping. While noted for many fine antique shops, our gift shops are second-to-none! Treasures and Pleasures, The Place, Blissfield General Store and our other fine antique shops many have just that special piece you are looking for. Gift shops like Victorian Garden, Royal Expressions, The Packrat and Schmidt & Sons Pharmacy & Kollectible Korner have all the unique gifts of all sorts. Southward Custom Wood Products feature fine handcrafted wood gifts.
The rail line that runs through Blissfield is also a historic feature. The Erie and Kalamazoo Railroad, built from Toledo, Ohio to Adrian, Michigan in 1836, was the first railroad west of the Alleghenies. Today the Adrian & Blissfield Railroad and its Murder Mystery Dinner Train follows that same route. Another railroad-connected feature of Blissfield is the Raisin Valley Model Railroad Club and its hundreds of feet of scenic track layout available to the public on weekends. My office is located in the carefully restored Depot Museum and Visitors Center, just north of the corner of Lane and Adrian Streets.
We are proud of our industry. Our newest Agricultural based industry, Global Ethanol, ethanol plant running full operation. Blissfield is home to Riverbend Timber Framing, an international company with a partner in Canada, one of America’s premier timber frame home manufacturing companies. We are glad that Blissfield Manufacturing, Maxitrol, Insulspan, Tec-Option and International Brass, call Blissfield their home.
Please come visit us. While I live in Lenawee County, I always love this wonderful village of Blissfield. If you visit us just once, you will see what draws me to this warm, wonderful Blissfield.
