There is a world of opportunity for teaching English as a foreign language or TEFL. to be able to communicate with people from all cultures and see how they light up when they grasp a concept is delightful.
The opportunity to make a difference for someones life that affects literally everything they do is a wonderful reward. Seeing students accomplish many tasks and knowing that they will be able to overcome obstacles in education, work and life in general brings joy to all involved. There is never a dull moment and a great sense of humor keeps the learning wheel well oiled.
Chances are that a student is not going to immediately grasp English but practical teaching will go a long way. When the student is first oriented to a TEFL class they are bound to feel intimidated. This will dissipate as the student is treated with genuine warmth and enthusiasm.
Whether teaching one on one or in a classroom the use of audio-visual aids and games help to keep students focused and hopeful as they express themselves. When students realize how much they have learned - the enthusiasm to learn more abounds. And when students and teachers turn every day scenarios into creative play the information stays with students. Then they can go about daily life feeling a part of the world they live in.
Opportunities to travel and teach are plentiful. Many foreign countries employ TEFL teachers and may offer incentives for taking that leap. If a person loves to travel and live in the midst of varied cultures then this is definitely an option. It is bound to be fun to teach while experiencing the cultures of students.
A persons livelihood is enhanced when they get to the point of being able to communicate freely with employers and co-workers. The great news that a student has reached a goal is met with gratitude.
The rewarding experience of teaching far outweighs many other accomplishments. TEFL is even more so as there is not only the basic satisfaction of seeing a student do well but also the opportunity to improve one's lot in life.
