The Kansas City Chiefs have had a rough few years of football. Just a few years back, they were a competitive football team and had an arsenal of great players.
The team has lost star tight end Tony Gonzalez, but some other additions drown this loss out a bit. It's never easy losing a hall of fame player.
Enter Matt Cassel, potential savior. Cassel did a tremendous job filling the void left by an injured Tom Brady in New England last season, and led the team to a 10-6 finish that, by all standards, should have brought them to the playoffs.
After losing an aging Trent Green to injury, the Chiefs have struggled to find their way at quarterback, juggling between Damon Huard, Brodie Croyle, and others, but Cassel really eliminates any question marks at the position.
Unfortunately, Cassel was absent from the team's week 1 game at Baltimore due to injury. Despite this, the Chiefs looked pretty good, all things considered. Dwayne Bowe and others give this team an injection of youth, and a bit of hope.
Cassel was an efficient quarterback in week 2, but the team was unable to defeat the visiting Oakland Raiders. While the Raiders would normally be considered an easy opponent, the fact that they nearly beat the Chargers at home in week 1 might mean that the Raiders are improved.
An 0-2 start is far from ideal for Kansas City, who must now face very difficult opponents during the next three weeks. Who would want to play the Eagles, Cowboys, and Giants in consecutive weeks after starting 0-2? "Not I" said the rest of the NFL.
If they can find a win over the next three weeks against the Eagles, Giants or Cowboys, it will give fans some hope for the near future. Besides hope, it will also build team chemistry in KC and give the players some confidence as well.
