Island Boat Rentals and Adventure Travel

Boat Charters and Adventure Travel by Your Travel Buddy Adventure Tours

by iBiza Joe

If you want to make your coastal or island vacation really special then hire a boat. You can make it a real day to remember. If you've never considered this before then make sure you consider the following points so that your dream day doesn't turn to a disaster.

If you have chartered a boat "bareboat" that means there's no crew on board and if you have not got the necessary paper work you will need to hire a fully qualified skipper. Often the charter company can organise this for you.

If you've opted for a power boat then you will need to take into account that the fuel is normally on top of the charter fee so if you've hired a gas guzzleing speed boat be aware.

The effects of the sun are up to three times as powerful at sea as on land. Make sure you take a hat and some sun block. The ladies might be interested in the fact you can tan three times the speed at sea.

Snorkel and goggles are a must if you are going to moor up and take a dip in the sea. They're great for spotting jelly fish before it's too late [a problem in the Med] or sharks [in other seas]

Always listen to the safety warnings at the start of the journey. Children must always be supervised and in life jackets. You may consider weather you should take younger children at all.

Always tip the skipper or if you're going ashore for lunch invite him along.

That's it have fun and if it all goes well it will be one of the best days of your holiday! To book your next bare boat charter, visit Your Travel Buddy Adventure Tours.

Tortola Yacht Charters, Sailing in Paradise

YTB Outdoors seeks Tortola Yacht Charters, Bareboat Charters, Scuba Diving Instructors, and Deep Sea Fishing. Visit YTB Outdoors for more information.

With more than fifty bays and cays, plus an abundance of anchorages to choose from, it's no surprise that the British Virgin Islands are listed at the top of the world's most popular sailing areas. Sailing conditions here are ideal. The right winds, beautiful water and beaches second to none, make this a world class sailing destination.

While sailing in the BVI's, perhaps the only time you would be out of sight of land altogether might be if you decided to sail north to Anegada -the drowned island - a truly captivating island, of coral reef beginnings, which is 10 miles long, 2 miles wide but only 28 feet high! And serves the best lobsters in the universe! The scenery from your yacht, as you cruise through the perfect blue waters of the Caribbean, will delight even the most traveled vacationer. Novice sailors enjoy the security of knowing that they are very rarely out of sight of land. There's nearly always an island close by. If you need a break for some lunch or a swim, a beautiful white sand beach is waiting close by.

As you might expect, the variety of yachts available for you to charter is considerable - monohulls or catamarans, sailboats or motor charters. You will be able to find something to suit every budget and requirement. Obviously, the larger the boat you select, the larger the staterooms that will be available to you, with catamarans customarily providing the most spacious accommodations. Needless to say, though, you can be assured that the quality of interior furnishings and facilities represent the highest possible standards that you would demand for yourself and your fellow travelers.

Your first decision, of course, is whether to choose a crewed charter or go 'bareboat'. If you choose the latter, then imagine the ultimate sailing experience, with complete freedom and independence. Around the BVI you will be able to safely enjoy line of sight sailing with a reliable breeze and perfect visibility, and few open water hazards.

There are several charter companies in Tortola and the BVI's to choose from. A little online research will get you off in the right direction. The charter companies based in Tortola will normally require some evidence that the skipper of the vessel has had previous experience. At least one person on the vessel should know what they're doing! Although certifications are not always mandatory, they are useful.

Some crewed charters offer both a captain and a cook, so that no-one on the journey needs to worry about cooking, cleaning or making sure there is enough ice! When it comes to selecting a crewed charter, the possibilities are very wide. Some companies offer a 'captain only' service, with the qualified skipper being totally responsible for the safe operation of the yacht but perhaps needing your assistance with the sailing.

Whatever your charter requirements, there will be companies in Tortola who will not only meet your expectations but far exceed them. Come and discover exactly why Tortola has become one of the world's favorite sailing and yacht charter hot spots. Chartering a great yacht is the ultimate luxury of the sea; your own private cruise, with nothing to do except relax and watch the Caribbean flow by.

Jellyfish Protection on a Whitsundays Bareboat Charter

Jellyfish Protection on a Whitsundays Bareboat Charter

by Alan Milso

Introduction

As a bareboat charter operator in the Whitsundays one of the most common questions I am asked is "what about jellyfish" There are 2 types of jellyfish which drawn particular attention in this are one is the Box Jelly fish (Chironex fleckeri) and the Irukandji jellyfish (Carukia barnesi). Both jellyfish have been recorded to have caused death with the Box

Time of Year

Box jelly fish stings have been recorded to have occurred in all months with January being the worst. The warmer period of the year spanning from the end of September to the beginning of April is considered the peak season. Which also aligns itself with the peak tourist season but I could not find a study which collates the two

Signs Of Being Stung

The intriguing part about the Irukandji sting is that it usually goes unnoticed until about half an hour later when the symptom start to manifest themselves. These include increased heart rate, vomiting, sweating, chest pains and a feeling anticipated fear. The symptoms ebb to return up to half an hour later and the cycle continues progressively getting worse.

Treatment

Applying vinegar to the area which has been stung will remove any other tentacles an prevent further invenonmation. Bareboat Charterer should also immediately contact the charter company to arrange the next step which is usually an airlift to Mackay where the victim is kept under observation

Precautions

Best precautions are to wear what is commonly referred to as a "Stinger Suite" any reputable Bareboat Charter company will either provide them or refer you to where you can hire them. They are not a fashion statement especially for the more portly of us but they have a two fold purpose in that they are excellent for stopping sunburn which by the way is way more common a reason for spoiling a bareboat holiday than jellyfish stings

Conclusion

I believe the probability of being stung by an Irukandji while bareboat chartering in the Whitsundays is quite remote but the precaution of wearing a stinger suite is not a high price to pay for piece of mind. When my family is snorkelling we all wear them. They are not a great fashion statement especially for the ladies but a pair of boardies over the top does wonders for the look. See you on the water.

An Overview to Bareboat Charter Fishing

An Overview to Bareboat Charter Fishing

by Alan Mills

Introduction

Car rental and bareboat charter have a lot in common. The car renter takes possession of the car and is responsible for it. The renter provides a driver, is responsible for the fuel and buys his own snacks for the journey. Bareboat charter, sometimes but rarely referred to as "deponents owner" charter is a similar arrangement where the hirer takes possession of the vessel from the owner or charter company an provides his/her own crew and food.

Reputation

World holiday travel especially in the great outdoors and marine based activities have greatly increased in popularity in recent times which has had a great affect on the little known bareboat charter industry, which satisfy the needs of people interested in both of these activities. Bareboat charter has moved from being a specialised activity to one of which many can now partake

Hire Choices

With its increasing popularity the industry has grown to where there are hundreds of Bareboat charter companies and even smaller organizations renting boats. Where possible look for a provider that offers vessels that suit the individual needs of the bareboat charterer. People who own their own yacht will sometime opt for to hire because purpose built bareboats are better for extended an extended cruise than the vessel they sail on the weekends.

Where to Charter

There are many places in the worlds oceans that are great for bareboating from the Virgin to the Greek Islands. There is nothing better than being the master of your own destiny and itinerary. The Whitsunday Island group is a favorite and world renown destination for Bareboat charter. Power cruisers have become the vessel of choice for the novice and the enthusiasts alike, especially group charters. With 74 Islands and the Great Barrier Reef to choose from the options are endless

God Powered or Man Powered

Different strokes for different folks sailing is usually the first choice of the even the novice but after being on a sail boat for a week or so many people are heard to say "had a great time but next time I'll hire a cruiser. There is no substitute for space and comfort especially on those tired days or when the weather is lees than perfect.

Summing Up

A bareboat charter is the ultimate vacation to get away from it all. It can challenges all the senses while at other times it can be a haven of peace and serenity. The choice is yours. Novice or experience, male or female, family or friends. Every one should do this at least once in their life but in the case of Bareboat charter people don't often stop at once.

Before you make any decision have a look at the type of purpose built (http://www.anchorsawaybareboatcharters.com/site/coastal46/) Power yacht I mentioned in the article and an example of a (http://www.anchorsawaybareboatcharters.com/) Whitsunday Bareboat Charter to give you an idea of what to look for.

4 Things to Know About Selecting a Bareboat Charter

Posted by Your Travel Buddy on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 , under , , | comments (0)

Four Thing You Should Know About Selecting a Bareboat Charter

by Alan Mills

1/ Motor Cruiser or Yacht This is your first decision below is a list of questions you need to answer to help you make the right one

Can I do with just basic need or do I like all the mod cons?

Do I look like the the way I get there or where I'm going?

Backpacking is OK or I need a bit of privacy?

Great a bush camp or where's the motel

If your all about the first alternative you would be OK on a sail boat. If the second alternative is more you, go got the motor cruiser. If your a bit of both it may swing on how long you intend to be on the charter but I would lean toward the motor cruiser.

2/ Who and How Many People do I Take Who you take on your boat has a lot to do with how much fun you have no matter where your destination is or how you get there. Even on the bigger yacht conditions are still pretty cramped especially if the weather is a bit ordinary. If you choose a yacht only go with people who you have been in similar tight situations with before or family. You don't want to go on as friends and get of as something less. Motor cruisers are a lot more forgiving especially the bigger ones

3/What Brand or Model of Yacht/Cruiser

The biggest you can afford

The most recently built you can pay for

The most well appointed you can pay for

Manufactured to fulfill the needs of the skipper yourself hirer ie plenty of water and refrigeration

Hire a Skipper or Go it Alone If your not that confident in taking charge of the ship you can usually hire a skipper even if it is only for a day. It will add to the cost. My experience as been that the vast majority are fine on a motor cruiser but some experience is needed to sail. In fact most charter companies require some evidence of someone on board having at least completed a pre-sail course. Pick someone in your party who has the following traits

Have good eyesight

Be alert to their position and those of the vessels around them

Not have a tendency to drink and drive

Be tolerant of other boater and not in a rush

North, south, east or west where ever you are on the globe there are plenty of great places to charter a bareboat. From Greece to The Virgin Island and every where in between, my preference is a group of islands of the Great Barrier called The Whitsunday, it has everything you could ask for the novice or experienced bareboated. If I am on the water for a few days I prefer cruising to sailing these days especially if I have company. What ever your preference I am sure you will have a great time if you give this type of holiday a try. See you out there.

Before taking the plunge you might want to check out the type of purpose built motor cruiser I wrote about here at (http://www.anchorsawaybareboatcharters.com/) bareboat charter yacht and my preferred haunt to cruise (http://www.anchorsawaybareboatcharters.com/site/aboutwhits/) The Whitsunday Islands
